Q When I come home from
work, I'm tired and the kids
want attention. How can
I make a nutritious dinner? A Instead of
starting supper
immediately when
you walk in the
door, spend just
five minutes
preparing a
platter of
fruits and
veggies, cheese
cubes, and
whole-grain
crackers,
suggests Aviva
Goldfarb, author
of The Six
O'Clock
Scramble: Quick,
Healthy, mid
Delicious Dinner
Recipes for Busy
Families. While
you're enjoying
the no-fuss
appetizers with
your family,
you'll have a
chance to catch
your breath,
your kids will
get some
one-on-one time,
and you'll take
the edge off
everyone's
hunger (and lift
the mood, too).
Other tips:
To avoid
last-minute
grocery-store
runs, plan a
few meals in
advance and then
shop for the
ingredients in
one trip. And
stop making a
separate dinner
for the kids,
even if it's
just a box of
mac 'n' cheese.
Says Goldfarb,

to the mess and
stress."-KAREN
CICERO.

Lemon detox diet, does it
work?
Consuming anything sour
makes the liver and
gallbladder purge stored
toxins. The liver is
especially important for
weight loss and overall
health. When the liver is
filled with toxins, it
cannot do its critical tasks
in metabolizing fat. So that
is why it is essential to
keep your liver in top
working condition.
In a lemon detox diet,
you use the juice of a fresh
lemon in a cup of hot water
in the morning. The morning
is when our bodies are in a
natural cleansing phase, so
it is a good time to consume
cleansing foods and juices.
For your lemon detox diet,
you also use either fresh
lemon juice or a slice of a
lemon in water that you
drink throughout the day. In
the lemon detox diet, water
is a key component. You
should drink at least 64
ounces a day.
Lemon juice for lemon
detox diet provides an
added benefit: it also
supplies the body with a
good dose of vitamin C. But don't use lemon juice
as your sole method of
cleansing or weight loss. Although a lemon detox
diet is beneficial, it
will not be as effective as
a more thorough detox. You
will lose more weight and
gain more energy by going
through a more thorough
detox. In a more thorough lemon
detox diet, you will
consume vegetables, fruits,
spices, and herbs that are
known for their cleansing
and fat-burning abilities.
Fresh lemon juice is a part
of a more thorough detox
diet.
But most lemon detox diet
(such as Ann Louise
Gittleman's Fat Flush Diet)
incorporate a detox period
of at least two weeks.
This is too long!
Why? Well, a lemon detox diet
requires that you deprive
yourself of most of the
things that you love. The
longer that a diet requires
you to deprive yourself, the
lower the chance that you'll
STICK with it,
more.
The optimum period for a
lemon detox diet is one
week. Most people can stick
to a restricted diet for
that long.

What is a raw food detox
diet?
A raw food detox diet
is a diet rich in
unprocessed, natural
plant-based foods that are
not cooked above 116?F
(46?C). Here?s are the
categories of raw foods:
- Fresh and dried fruits
- Fresh vegetables
- Sprouts
- Non-roasted nuts, nut
butters, and seeds
- Sprouted, unprocessed,
uncooked grains and beans
- Uncooked seaweed
What is a raw food detox
diet?
A raw food detox diet
is a diet of 100% raw foods
which is followed to cleanse
the body of harmful toxins.
A detox diet is a great way
for your body to return to
its natural state of health
therefore relieving many
symptoms of ill health such
as excess weight, acne,
low-energy, constipation,
and allergies.
Can anyone follow a
raw food detox diet?
No. If you are elderly,
are pregnant or nursing, are
anemic, are a young child,
have a serious disease, are
chronically ill, or are
addicted to drugs or alcohol
you should not follow any
detox diet. Everyone else
can follow a raw food detox
diet.
Are there any side
effects on detox diet?
On raw food detox diet
may be a few mild side
effects. The good news
though is that the side
effects usually mean that
the detox is working
effectively. You may
experience mild headaches,
cravings, or nausea. These
side effects will usually go
away within a few days.
- How long should I stay on
a raw foods detox diet?
The answer to this question
depends on the results that
you are looking for in your
raw food detox diet plan. If
you are in fairly good
health to begin with then a
detox diet from a few days
to a week will dramatically
improve your health. If you
have a lot of weight to
lose, consider following a
100% raw food diet until you
reach your ideal weight. In
both cases though, if you
follow a raw food diet for a
while only to immediately
return to a poor diet of
processed foods, then you
will undo all the good of
the detox diet.
Consider a
raw foods diet as a more
permanent answer to optimum
health. As a long term
approach, try to comprise
your diet of 70 to 100% raw
foods after your initial
detox diet,
more.
Raw Detox Food
I'm not a "raw foodist,"
though I will happily
describe myself as a "raw
food enthusiast." I host
surprisingly gourmet (if
informal) raw food potluck
dinners. Folks might bring a
prepared dish or some items
from their garden; Friends
have also brought fresh
herbs that they've only
vaguely heard of before they
purchased them. We make
soups, salads, wraps, dips,
desserts, and on weeks when
I can manage it I prepare
flax crackers, fresh from
the dehydrator.
My first bit of advice
about raw food is "just try
it." Participate in
local potluck dinners, try
items from recipe books and
online sources, invest in
your first piece of new
kitchen equipment, whether a
good sharp knife, or a
Vitamix.
Choosing to eat raw food
sometimes doesn't mean you
must give
up anything dearly beloved
in your diet (unless you
want to). But it will be a
wondrous addition to both
your palate, and your
health, raw food is the real
thing for detox.
Here are some raw detox food
tips:
1. You don't need exotic
ingredients to make great
raw cuisine. Ripe,
in-season, fresh, organic
produce will delight.
2. You don't
actually need a
juicer to make
juice. A
blender will do,
along with a
mesh bag from:
http://www.purejoy
livingfoods.com/products/equipment.
shtml or
http://www.raw
family.com/products.htm.
(These bags can
also be used to
make nut milks,
or to grow
sprouts.)
3. If you
have a Champion
Juicer, you
can use it to
make soft ice
cream. Frozen
ripe bananas
plus raspberries
blend into a
delicious treat.
4. Salad
always tastes
great with
the Boutenko
family's
"Generic Salad
Dressing
Recipe." I have
a copy on my
website, at
www.rawfoodwiki.org--the
first "hit" if
you search for
the word
"generic," but I
recommend their
books, for more
great recipes.
5. Sharing
food is more
fun.

I look
forward to
sharing raw
cuisine with
Alan Yurko and
his family when
he is free.
You may remember
him as the man
sent to prison
for life,
wrongly
convicted of the
murder of his
vaccinated son.
The medical
examiner in this
case was
suspended in
February 2004,
after the
discovery of
egregious errors
in the autopsy.
(He had
misidentified
the baby's race,
age, and head
circumference,
for instance,
and even
described organs
that he never
examined--they
had already been
harvested for
transplant.) I
encourage
Townsend Letter
readers to learn
more about Alan
Yurko's story,
and consider
making a
contribution
toward his
considerable
legal expenses.
You could mail a
check, or
contribute via
the PayPal link,
or get some cool
stuff at the
online "Yard
Sale." Alan has
already been
incarcerated for
6 1/2 years.
